Always Be Learning…and Charging
Apr 19, 2016
Helloooooo from Nashville and Marketing United!
I’m so excited to be here for the first time (both in Nashville and at Marketing United). While I’m a Music City newb, I am not a conference-going newb. I’ve got my comfortable shoes on, my portable power bank charged and far more business cards than necessary. I have also scoped out the coffee stations and hidden outlets.
I love listening to people’s stories, and watching how they tell them in keynotes, panels and sessions. Being out of the office in a conference setting reminds me that it’s okay, and a really good thing, to always be learning. Another major key is to always be charging your device(s) – something we learned at the last conference we went to, hence the hidden outlet finding.
Here are a few sessions I’m looking forward to listening to and learning from over the next two days:
- The Delicious Digital Strategy of Mario Batali and Tito’s Vodka: Josie Fox, Content Coordinator, Tito’s Vodka, Kelley Kirker, Account Manager, Emma, and Pam Lewy, Communications Director, Mario Batali
- “The Story of charity: water”: Scott Harrison, charity: water
- A Simple Plan for Writing One Powerful Piece of Online Content Per Week: Pamela Wilson, EVP of Educational Content, Rainmaker Digital (formerly Copyblogger Media)
- Everything You Need To Know about the Next 3 Years in Email: Jay Jhun, Digital Marketing Strategist, IBM
- “Hug Your Haters”: Jay Baer, Convince & Convert
And maybe the session I’m most looking forward to (hashtag not biased) is a panel at 2pm CT/3pm ET today (Tuesday 4/19) in the Grand Foyer. Our very own John Lane (@johnvlane) will talk agency and client partnerships in an evolving marketing landscape with Nashville AMA’s Courtenay Rogers (@courtenayrogers) and fellow agency leaders Jeffrey Buntin (@JeffreyBuntinJr) of The Buntin Group and Joey Tackett (@joeytackett) of Forum One. Do you have burning questions for them? Tweet us @Centerline or @Brit_Kotary and I’ll ask them during the Q&A!
Are you here and also searching for Sam Hunt and/or iced coffee? Tweet me @Brit_Kotary, I’d love to say hello! If you’re not (I’ll accept remote help on finding the coffee and country star), you can follow and join in the conversation with us on Twitter @Centerline + #MarketingUnited and on Snapchat username: ‘Centerliners’!
Stay tuned for more insights and thoughts from Marketing United in the coming days!
A lifelong northerner, I began my career in agency public relations in Rochester, New York, later moving to New York City, working with a variety of technology and consumer brands from Xerox and IBM to Blackberry and KAYAK. I loved the fast-paced and entrepreneurial environment and learned so much about myself, client and people management, media relations and how to properly mail merge. Now a relocated northerner and wannabe southerner, I still love the pace, people and spirit of agency life in Raleigh. As Centerline’s Communications Manager, I get to help amplify the amazing content that we produce as an agency and thought leaders through events, media placement, relationships with influencers and social media.
