Centerline + Pizza: Love at First Slice
Feb 9, 2017
Pizza. It’s something that I’m not only passionate about, but have also dedicated many mealtimes to.
Today is National Pizza Day, making it basically the best day all year.
I’ve tried pizza in multiple states, even multiple countries. I’ve tried it with a marinara base sauce, a pesto base sauce, even no sauce at all. I’ve had truly great toppings – pistachios, just try it – and truly awful combinations. One time my friend tried to make pepperoni, caramelized onions and butternut squash a thing.
Centerline takes pizza even more seriously than I do.
Way back in 1996, Centerline started Pizza Friday. We used that time to sit down, hang out and get to know our coworkers.
Now every Friday at 11:59 a.m., the dulcet tones of our office manager Royal calling, “pizza’s ready!” ring out over the office-wide intercom. What happens next? Well, just imagine 130 frenzied, hangry Centerliners descending loudly – yet orderly – down one metal staircase.
It’s Pizza Friday time, y’all.
Even Charles, Centerline’s Founder & CEO has been known to get in on the action. [edit note: he prefers hours-old-pizza heated up in the toaster oven]
Each week, we order around 20 pizzas, rotating from three different local pizzerias – DeMo’s, Gino’s and Donatos. While the amount of pizzas ordered has grown, Pizza Friday still serves the same purpose – a time to spend together, as a team.
While pizza is always appreciated, a few Centerliners have developed a liking for one pizzeria over another. Courtney Walker, marketing coordinator/graphic designer, is #TeamDeMos.
“So, their white pizza is life-changing. I’m also a huge fan of the guy that runs their Snapchat – you know their pizza is made with love, enthusiasm, and the ultimate amount of hypeness. I mean, what else can you really ask for when it comes to pizza?”
Follow DeMo’s on Snapchat and check it out for yourself.
Scott Richardson, an editor, is #TeamDonatos, preferring their thin crust slices.
“I like my pizza in squares so I can eat 12 pieces, but tell myself it’s okay because they’re bite-sized. Also, square pizza is better because I can cram more of it into tupperware when I take the leftovers home with me.”
Not to be left out, #TeamGinos brings it in for the win with the old-school favorites.
“Gino’s Old Fashioned is the best. The basil and garlic combo puts a fun spin on the classic cheese,” says Chrissy Russell, Operations Specialist.
In honor of National Pizza Day, we’re moving Pizza Friday to today, Pizza Thursday, to celebrate this unofficial Centerline holiday (second only to Centerween…or maybe Centerline Christmas.) We’ll be celebrating with 20+ pies – but where will we be ordering from? Follow along on Snapchat [username: Centerliners] to find out!
